Time Used: 12+ hours

Inspired by 'This Love' parody on attack of titans (video links on the bottom) - I used the method of rotoscoping a (very short) video out of 'Troublemaker'. Why did it take so long to do this video? well... I didn't realize that one second had over 10 frames, and I ended up painting (realistically, too OTL;; ) almost 20+ frames and editing the rest (total of 50-60 frames). My first time trying out Adobe Flash, so it took me a while to learn it too :P

p.s. If it doesn't load for you, you can watch it on youtube!! www.youtube.com/watch?v=BZEGtO…

Tools Used: BAMBOO Pen tablet, Photoshop CS2, SAI, Adobe Flash CS3 Pro
Artwork/Rotoscoping (c) Sarah HaEun Jeong
Original Characters/Story (c) Rumiko Takahashi

(a must-watch if you're a fan[girl] of attack on titans!!)

Possibly, I mean they put up doujinshis on there sometimes and I'll read them. Plus it can only be a bonus of more exposure.

Looks good so far.  depending on how much quality you want to put into it.  I'd go to 12 actual frames but double each per second.  So you'd have 24 frames per second in total.  It'll help make it flow better.  Your beginning shots pretty good flow wise but the one where Sesshy shows up is jumpy a bit.  If you need help let me know.  I've actually taken a few animation classes.  You are going to want to pull yourself out of painting each frame and go to a cell shading.  Things will go much quicker in the coloring department and I think it'll make frames more consistent.

But awesome job on a first attempt like this.  I'm very impressed.

24 frames... per... second... *faints* but I totally agree, more frames = smoother flow; I kinda had to get lazy where Sesshoumaru comes in because I took 30 minutes per frame to try make him look perfect u.u;; and I actually did try cell shading, but it looked horrible compared to the realistic background I've already set up T^T;; so that's why I'm thinking of just doing lines/ sketch animating after the first ten seconds (which is the intro)

Thank you, I've always wondered why simple, short animation clips would take a whole team to complete it - now I know. XD

oh! btw, can you help me with my next project - the dress-up game? Just with setting up- I think I can make the clothes move onto the body (saw a tutorial briefly) but I also wanted the option of changing backgrounds/adding music/changing eye/hair colour with arrows, etc. Is that all in flash as well?

(and I'm almost done the lineart for the collab, I hope you'll be in a colouring mood next week! I can do the bg if you'd like~)

Oh god, I don't know if I'll be much help.  It's been forever since I did anything in flash and I don't own it.  I'll literally have to dig out my Flash book from school to see if I can find the codes or steps to get what you want for the arrows and stuff.  But yeah you could make the whole game in flash if you wanted.  Or you can try combining another form of game coding to make it.  XNA is the one I am familiar with and have books on.  Python I've heard is another good gaming code.

As for the 24 frames.  really your only drawing 12 for each second.  Just 2 more to your 10.  You just duplicate each frame once which isn't hard to make the 24.  Believe me it'll look good.
Here's an example that I found last night.
this is the animatic....

this next link is his update on the project but the important part is at the end.  If you can skip the video to about 6min 30sec in.  And you'll get to see some finished product.  This guy is doing traditional animation for this and it's gorgeous.

Also I am in a coloring mood. :D I'm so excited.  And >.> my bg...unless you want something specific

Thanks so much for the help! I'll definitely check those out, although I've tried doubling the frames and didn't really help too much >.< (I think it's the way I'm drawing them too- the movements don't 'connect')

Ugh, I hate being almost finished and perfectionism kicks in... sorry Yundi, I'll for sure have it done tomorrow >_<;;; it's perfect timing though, Volume 1 is almost finished! ^^

That's strange.  It may have to do how your doubling them, or maybe the speed that your having the program go through the frames.  It may be slowing it down to much or your animation is already choppy and it's just making it show more easily.  So, if you think it's how your drawing the frames it could be because your don't have enough movement from one frame to the next to make it fluid.  In which case you just need more frames.
Ideally you create Key frames and then animate frames between those key frames to make a scene.  To Point A to Point B.  And you either use however many frames it takes to get to that point or if you have time limitations you have to figure out ways to speed up how Point A gets to Point B.  Then you connect a bunch of scenes to create a story.  Very time consuming.  Just keep at it.  If it's your first time I'm not expecting miracles.  You're going to make mistakes.  Which you'll know not to do next time you animate.

:P Your fine.  Just get it to me when you can.
